Laminated wood

What is laminated wood?

Laminated wood is made by bonding pieces of wood together using a special adhesive. Tree require many years to grow, so there is a limit to the size of the sheets obtainable. Laminated wood makes possible the application of sizes that would not be obtainable as a single sheet. In addition, through combining pieces, it is possible to make use of even small pieces of lumber, which helps in the efficient use of the resource.

In general, this results in an un-uniform wood grain, so it is less attractive than using a single sheet. We are also often asked about its strength, but if the product is properly bonded using the correct adhesive in accordance with the product’s purpose (Ex. Outdoor use, etc.), then there is never a loss in strength in the adhesive surfaces.

Lumber

What are lumber?

Planks are a form of panks made by turning the original wood into sheets.
There are many types of wood, and these can be largely grouped into needle-leaved and broad-leaved trees.
The cedar and cypress trees that grow in abundance in Japan are needle-leaved trees. Broad-leaved trees include oak, beech, ash, etc. There are tens of thousands of different types of trees in the world, and each type varies in color, hardness and peculiarities. In cold regions, trees grow slowly, and many have narrow annual growth rings. Whereas, in warm regions, they grow quickly, and many have wide annual growth rings.
Trees are similar to humans in that each has a different appearance as well as differing age rings. Perhaps one of the charms of trees is that no two look exactly the same even among trees of the same type.

[Merits] Lumber are a single sheet, so unlike laminated wood, the wood grain is perfectly uniform, and they give a sense of quality.

[Demerits] It varies by size and wood type, but due to being a single sheet, they may warp and bend.

Flooring and wall paneling

What is flooring?

Flooring is a floor material made from solid wood.

For Japanese people, who remove their shoes at home, the floor is the area closest to the body and with the most opportunities for physical contact. Using solid wood flooring for that area you most come in contact with makes your daily life and your living space all the more pleasant.

In addition to the physical sensation of solid wood flooring, its appearance and sense of quality are among its greatest charms. In the same way that cuisine looks more appealing when served on fine dishware, furniture looks more luxurious when resting atop a high-quality floor. When you flip through stylish interior design or architectural magazines, you see that most of the houses use solid wood flooring.
That is how much solid wood flooring improves the appearance and sense of quality in a home.

Scratches and dents are some of the demerits of solid wood flooring, but changing your view point will help you see these instead as forms of “flavor” and “affection.” Another charm of solid wood is being able to enjoy the color as it changes over the years.

What is wall paneling?

Wall paneling is a wall-finishing material made from solid wood meant to be bonded to walls.

It gives walls a unique accent, and can be used to create retaining walls that bring a more high-quality atmosphere to your living space. In addition, it brings even more of the warmth of wood to a room if used to cover an entire wall.
